Blow up was the first thing that I thought too. such an intriguing picture - any idea when/where it is exactly from?

Thanks for your comments... It's actually a postcard I picked up in a junk shop. It's postdated 8 October 1958 and reads ...
'Dear Brian Hope you are behaving. Where is your mother's letter. Will you get some corn flakes please and see that they have left some bread and milk.
Love June & all xxxx'.
The card states the image is a view of 'The Gardens, Braintree', (that's in south east England). I can't quite believe it but it seems this picture was supposed to be an advert for the place (!). Curiously the words 'THIS IS A REAL PHOTOGRAPH' are printed too.
